
Peter, Vice President, General Counsel
Peter is leading UNION’s legal affairs team. He and his team is working with a great variety of legal tasks related to corporate governance, management support and advice, fundraising, compliance, contracts, etc. They support the project teams and the business in general.
Motivated by supporting and collaborating across the organization
Peter explains: “Being a legal advisor in a small, entrepreneurial and very ambitious organization with a management team that shows a high degree of trust is highly motivating. It requires that my team and I not only have to apply our legal expertise but also very much our common sense and understanding of the business and our strategy.”
“We are continuously developing our compliance framework and internal work processes, but we also seek to stay lean and efficient in order to maintain our agility. Furthermore, we don’t have a group of specialized legal colleagues to rely on. You therefore need a willingness to learn and collaborate but also a good self-confidence and broad legal toolbox. Developing and applying these traits to support the organization is key and something I encourage in my team.”
Driving execution and igniting passion
Peter adds: “We have recently defined the “UNION Way” and the UNION virtues as part of describing our “why” and who we aspire to be. I can identify with all of UNION’s virtues, but if I should highlight a few it would be “Drive execution” and “Ignite passion”.”
“Driving Execution is intuitively close to the way my team and I work, as we are often responsible for activities that are not very visible but can be hard stops for UNION if not executed in time and at the required quality. Personally, I like seeing how the humble and hard work of my team pays off by supporting the objectives of my colleagues and UNION.”
“Igniting passion is also easy for me to identify with, especially in terms of fighting indifference. Being part of a small company, we have to be willing to pick up tasks that are not necessarily part of our job description when such tasks are important for the company and our mission to create medicines that makes a difference for patients in need.”
